The New Orleans Saints suffered another setback in Week 14 following their 20-17 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Fortunately, fans were at least treated to a dynamic performance from their top wide receiver, Micheal Thomas.

The short week did not affect Thomas one bit as he caught 10 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown on Thursday night. According to NFL Senior Director of Football Communications Randall Liu, his stellar outing moved him one step closer to joining New York Giants superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in NFL history:

The second-year man out of Ohio State made an immediate impact as a rookie last year. He has since filled in as the Saints' primary wideout with the departure of the speedy Brandin Cooks prior to the 2017 season.

Needless to say, he has avoided the dreaded sophomore slump by putting up numbers enjoyed only by Beckham Jr. Thomas has recorded 85 receptions for 992 yards and four touchdowns this year.

Although his trips to the end zone have been few and far in between, it can somewhat be attributed to New Orleans' suddenly lethal rushing attack.

Thomas is unlikely to match Beckham Jr.'s historic scoring pace and receiving yard marks. However, he could surpass his receptions mark. The Giants superstar totaled 187 receptions in his first two years, meaning Thomas needs just 11 more receptions over the final three games to hold the record by himself.
