New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas is coming off a modest performance by his standards during the win over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 12. Regardless, his only regret may be the one catch he failed to make.

Thomas suffered an uncharacteristic drop during the third quarter of New Orleans' 26-18 victory. According to ESPN Stats & Info, it was the first pass he dropped after 198 consecutive catches:

Michael Thomas’ 3rd-quarter drop snapped his streak of 198 straight catches without dropping a pass, including postseason.

Thomas falling just two catches shy of making it 200 straight has to leave him with some level of regret. Regardless, the fact that he was even to go that long without a drop is an impressive feat in itself.

Thomas is in the midst of yet another spectacular 2019 NFL season. The All-Pro wide out has proven to be worth every penny of the five-year, $100 million contract extension he earned in the offseason by hauling in 110 catches for 1,290 yards and six touchdowns with four games still left in the year. Although his underwhelming numbers versus the Falcons dealt a blow to his bid for MVP honors, there is still no question he has been the best receiver in the league.

Perhaps even more impressive about Thomas' production is that he has done it while serving as the focal point of the defense with little help from the receiving corps. He also prevented any kind of drop off between quarterbacks Drew Brees and Teddy Bridgewater when the former was injured early in the season.

Even if one historic mark came to an end for Thomas, it is safe to assume that there are still plenty of more currently in existence.
