The New Orleans Saints have been looking for help at the wide receiver position throughout the offseason and have finally found their man. Rishard Matthews has been searching for a new opportunity and he is getting one with the Saints.

According to a report shared by Pro Football Talk, Matthews has agreed to a contract with Matthews.

The NFL’s daily transaction report brought word of Matthews’s signing on Thursday afternoon. The team waived wide receiver Travin Dural to make room for Matthews on the roster.

Matthews has had a very solid NFL career, but hasn't been able to carve out a big role for himself since the 2017 season with the Tennessee Titans. In that season, he caught 53 passes for 795 yards and four touchdowns.

Last season was been a bit forgettable for him. Matthews played in just three games with the Titans in 2018, catching three passes for 11 yards. He had another chance with the New York Jets, catching just two passes for 13 yards.

While his career has taken a nosedive, Matthews is getting an ideal opportunity with the Saints. Drew Brees is one of the best quarterbacks in the game and Matthews will simply be able to be a short-yardage target. Michael Thomas is one of the league's top targets and the Saints also have weapons in Jared Cook, Tre'Quan Smith, and Ted Ginn Jr.

New Orleans isn't signing Matthews to be a starter, but he could work his way up into a solid role. This move is a low-cost, possible high reward type of signing and the Saints are hoping that it pays off for them.
