Dez Bryant signed with the New Orleans Saints earlier this week and there was a lot of excitement about him returning to the NFL after a long hiatus away from the game. Unfortunately, his return to the league may be on hold for quite some time after an injury that he suffered while practicing with the Saints.

According to a report from Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Saints fear that Bryant tore his Achilles today during practice. That injury would end his season and could keep him out longer than that depending on how recovery goes.

The hype was real surrounding Bryant after his decision to sign with the Saints. He was joining arguably the best team in the NFL and an already high-powered offense. Bryant was expected to help take pressure off of fellow star receiver Michael Thomas.

Hopefully, the injury is not as severe as the team is fearing. Bryant would have had a feel good story opportunity with the Saints, but instead the situation may end in heartbreak for the former Dallas Cowboys' superstar.

Throughout the offseason, Bryant struggled with multiple issues and needed to take care of them before returning to the field. He dealt with being called “old” and “washed up,” but battled through to sign a deal with the Saints.

New Orleans also lost wide receiver Cameron Meredith to season-ending knee surgery, which would have opened a role for Bryant to become a big part of their offense.

More news will become available soon about the injury and if it is indeed a torn Achilles. We are hoping that his injury isn't season-ending, but for now, the Saints may have lost their new weapon before he even took the field.
