New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell has denied the Saints' requests to host fans in a limited capacity amid the coronavirus pandemic, and a change in venue could be in order.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Saints officials are meeting with officials at nearby LSU to determine whether the team can host home games at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.

Saints spokesman Greg Bensel applauded LSU for working with the team to provide a potential environment to host fans. He also noted the NFL is aware the Saints could change home venues:

“LSU has been gracious and enthusiastic regarding hosting our future games and we very much appreciate their partnership,” Bensel said, via Schefter. “We have also discussed the possibility of moving our home games to LSU with the NFL and they are aware of our exploring this option.”

Bensel said that the team would still prefer to host at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. However, he indicated there is no clear timeline for when the Saints might be allowed to host fans, if at all:

“Obviously, our overwhelming preference is to play our games in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with partial fan attendance but there has been no indication from the city on when, or if, this might be approved,” Bensel said, via Schefter.

If the Saints do indeed move home games to Tiger Stadium, it is possible they played their final game of the 2020 season at the Superdome Monday night.

New Orleans came back from a 17-point deficit to beat the Los Angeles Chargers in overtime and improve to 3-2 on the year.
