New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is 40 years old and as time passes more and more questions are asked about how long he has left in the NFL. General manager Mickey Loomis was asked that exact question during an interview on Mad Dog Sports Radio, and he said at this point of Brees career they aren't looking at the long term, rather going year to year.

You know, I don’t think we look at it that way anymore. I think we look at it in terms of, ‘Hey, this year,’ you know? And man, he had a great season last year, and we expect a great season this year,” Loomis said, via the New Orleans Advocate. “And so for as long as he wants to play and can play, he’s going to have that opportunity.”

Brees said the first time he thought about the end being close was in 2017, but he tries not to overthink it, instead just enjoying whatever time he has left in the league.

“I realized [before the 2017 season] that I'm closer to the end than I am at the beginning … it's gone by so fast. And I don't want to let a second pass me by. I don't want to take it for granted for one moment,” Brees said during a question and answer session at The Advocate's Star of Stars event in May.

“So I'm just going to enjoy the moment, just going to stay in the moment and play the season like it's my last. I'm going to play it with the mentality like it's my last.”

Last season, Brees threw for 3,992 yards, 32 touchdowns, and five interceptions. If he continues to put up big years like that and can stay healthy, he still probably has at least a couple of years left in the league.
