In the last few weeks, the New Orleans Saints have had veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall on the roster since adding him to the mix.

Receiver Brandon Marshall, a 13-year veteran who has never played in a playoff game, was released by the Saints on Wednesday, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com. Marshall will be subject to waivers; if he clears, he’ll become a free agent.

Marshall was inactive in each of the last four games with New Orleans. The hope was that he could play a factor in the passing game for the team by giving them another proven receiving threat. Head coach Sean Payton spoke highly of Marshall, boasting about his ability to be a factor in the red zone due to his size and catching ability in traffic.

Prior to joining the Saints, he played in seven games with the Seattle Seahawks, making 11 catches on 23 targets for 136 receiving yards and a touchdown. Marshall's role was minor, allowing the younger talent at the position to take on more prominent roles. Although he has been able to prove that he's past his injury woes, he has struggled to make a strong impact in the passing game over the last few years.

This now puts Marshall's NFL future in jeopardy, as he has now been let go by two teams this campaign. Marshall still could join another team this year over the last three weeks of the regular season in hopes of latching onto a playoff contender.
