Ndamukong Suh is now a free agent after the Miami Dolphins officially released the star defensive lineman on Wednesday. It won’t be long until he starts making his free-agent visits as one of the best players still on the market, and the New Orleans Saints are working on being the first one in line, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The #Saints may not be done in free agency. They have interest in former #Dolphins DT Ndamukong Suh and are working on bringing him in to visit, I’m told. Assuming that’s the first visit, it’s a good sign for their chances to add top-shelf front 7 help.

Suh, 31, had a down year by his All-Pro standards as he recorded just 47 total tackles and 4.5 sacks, his lowest sack total since 2011. But when he’s properly motivated, he’s still one of the most impactful defensive linemen in the entire league.

The Saints are in the market for another defensive tackle this offseason. They met with Muhammad Wilkerson before he signed with the Packers. It remains to be seen how much Suh will be asking for in terms of salary and if the Saints can be able to match it. But if they find a way to make a deal work, Suh should be a welcome addition to the Saints.

While New Orleans’ defense against the pass improved by leaps and bounds last season, they still left some holes against the run. Suh’s presence along the interior of the Saints line should help significantly in that regard.
