New Orleans Saints star quarterback Drew Brees is set to enter the 18th year of his illustrious career after committing to inking a two-year deal to stay with the team earlier this offseason.

However, his former longtime teammate Reggie Bush has voiced during a brief interview with TMZ Sports that he believes that Brees could retire after the 2018 campaign if the Saints were to win Super Bowl 53 next February.

“If he wins the Super Bowl. If he wins the Super Bowl I think so.”

Brees has shown that he still has plenty left in the tank after another highly productive campaign where he threw for 4,334 yards with 23 touchdown passes while holding a 103.8 passer rating. Although there was a notable drop in the number of touchdown passes, that was due to the presence of a formidable running back with their Pro Bowl duo of Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara behind him. Nonetheless, Brees is playing at an elite level heading into the 2018 campaign which sets up the opportunity for him to compete for a Super Bowl.

The Saints are coming off a promising 2017 season where they reached the divisional round of the playoffs and were just one miracle play away from playing in the NFC Championship game. This has set the bar quite high for this upcoming season with the aspirations on reaching the Super Bowl with a strong roster in place on both sides of the ball that could see New Orleans finally break through in the NFC.

If things were to break their way on the way to the Super Bowl, it could provide a storybook ending to Brees' career that will one day land him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It is something time will only tell if it unfolds on the field in the 2018 season.
