Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was initially slated to start in this year's Pro Bowl. However, he has made way for New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Russell Wilson gave up his starting spot in the Pro Bowl to Brees:

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson is giving up his starting spot on the NFC Pro Bowl team to Saints QB Drew Brees today Nice gesture.

This is certainly a nice sentiment from Russell Wilson. After all, it is no secret that the 41-year-old Brees is in the final stage of his career and retirement is on the horizon. As a result, it seems Wilson is doing what he can to ensure that he makes the most out of what could be his last trip to the Pro Bowl.

There is no question that Wilson was certainly deserving of the starting job. He finished the 2019 NFL season throwing for over 4,000 yards, 31 touchdowns, and a mere five interceptions. He also nearly singlehandedly managed to keep the Seahawks playoff hopes alive in the NFC Divisional Round.

Meanwhile, Brees is set to appear in his 13th Pro Bowl of his illustrious career. It is safe to say that fans do not have many years left to watch Brees take part in the annual festivities. Although it is safe to say that he would rather be preparing for a Super Bowl, getting to make the start at the Pro Bowl should certainly be a nice consolation for the veteran.
