The New Orleans Saints' deal with Teddy Bridgewater might be falling apart. It was announced a couple of days ago that Bridgewater would be back in New Orleans next season, but the Miami Dolphins are swooping in at the last minute.

The Dolphins are meeting with Bridgewater today and will pitch him on the idea of ditching the Saints and coming to be their starter. If that happens, the Saints will need a new backup. The man they'll target to be that backup is apparently Ryan Tannehill, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

That would be interesting since it would amount to more or less a swap of Tannehill and Bridgewater from Miami to New Orleans. It all comes down to whether Bridgewater wants to start right away, or is comfortable biding his time on the Saints' bench. The Dolphins have made it clear that Tannehill won't be back with them next season. Rapoport points out that current Saints assistant GM Jeff Ireland is the executive who drafted Tannehill in Miami.

Tannehill has been the Dolphins' starting quarterback the past seven seasons since they drafted him in the first round back in 2012. He's been up and down throughout his career and hasn't been able to stay healthy the past few seasons. The writing was on the wall for Tannehill as soon as the Dolphins fired Adam Gase and signaled they wanted to go all-in on a rebuild. Last year, Tannehill only started 11 games and threw for just 1,979 yards while tossing nine interceptions.

Tannehill has fallen on hard times in recent years, but he's still only 30. He's young enough that he could theoretically take over for Drew Brees in New Orleans once Brees retires. He's been so beaten up and battered lately that people have forgotten Tannehill used to be very highly regarded. His days as a starter aren't necessarily over.
