Just because the New Orleans Saints are looking at a month or two of no Drew Brees doesn’t mean the team expects to lose. With Teddy Bridgewater under center, the team was able to come away with a big victory over the Seattle Seahawks, and Saints head coach Sean Payton believes Bridgewater is much more than just a backup.

FOX Sports Insider Jay Glazer, who is a close friend of Payton’s, recently spoke on the Rich Eisen Show (via Saints Wire) about how Payton feels regarding Bridgewater. According to Glazer, Payton has all the faith in the world in his new quarterback.

“So he doesn’t think Teddy’s a backup quarterback, too,” Glazer said. “He thinks Teddy’s a starting quarterback in this league.”

Glazer also described a story involving himself, Payton, and Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay shooting a feature for FOX when Bridgewater came up in the conversation.

“Sean Payton and I are sitting in there before, and I don’t even remember how Teddy came up, but he’s like, ‘Oh he’s a starting quarterback. He’s a legit starting quarterback.’ And it wasn’t him trying to sell me on (Bridgewater), we were just talking about him. So I know how he really feels about him.”

Payton trusts Bridgewater more than enough to lead the Saints while Brees is out. With a big matchup coming this week against the Dallas Cowboys, another Saints win would go a long way to alleviate any concerns about how the team might handle itself, and until Brees does return, it’ll be on Bridgewater to keep the team heading in the right direction and on another potential postseason run.
