Following the news of New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas declaring that he is done for the 2021 NFL season, Sean Payton shared his thoughts and didn't hold back in expressing his views of the current state of his team's receiving corps.

Payton on the WRs: “I'm not interested in your PFF grades or any of that other stuff. … Obviously you're better if you have Mike Thomas in that group but we don't right now.”

Unfortunately for Payton and the Saints, their offense will have to move forward this season without one of the best wide receivers in the game. Thomas suffered an ankle injury early in the 2020 NFL season and had it operated on in the succeeding offseason, causing him to miss the first eight weeks of the 2021 campaign. There was a chance that Thomas would be able to see action for the Saints in Week 9, but a recent discovery of a new ankle problem forced the wideout to make the difficult decision to end the season prematurely.

With Thomas out of the picture, the Saints' passing offense will have to continue relying on versatile running back Alvin Kamara, Deonte Harris, Marquez Callaway, and Tre'Quan Smith for help downfield. Jameis Winston is also on injured reserve after suffering a torn ACL in the Week 8 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In other words, the Saints' air attack has gone from bad to worse in a matter of just a week, leaving Payton a tough challenge of trying to will New Orleans forward.
