The New Orleans Saints have an interesting quarterback situation on their hands. As the team enters the 2020 season, one thing is for certain — Drew Brees is the Saints' starting quarterback. However, New Orleans also possesses two backup quarterbacks who are more than capable of starting for an NFL team. That would be because former No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston and the promising Taysom Hill are on the squad.

So the question is, who will get the primary backup reps? Will it be Winston, who is on a one-year deal, or will it be Hill, who is seen as the Saints' future starter once Brees calls it a career?

As Saints head coach Sean Payton details, the reps are obviously important, but a decision has yet to be made on who will receive those prized reps.

Via Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated:

“They are [important reps]. Those are cadence, those are huddle, those are personality things,” Payton said. “And yet, I think when we look at the training camp, and we look at the full length of preseason this year, those two’ll be ready to go. And then after this season, a lot of people have tried to read into, ‘Hey, what direction is it?’ We’re just investing in the position because it’s that important. And Taysom’s a different player than Jameis and we’re anxious to work with both of them.”

It's worth mentioning that Winston is only on a one-year contract. Hill is on a two-year deal through 2021. If Brees were to walk away after this season, only Hill is guaranteed to be under contract in New Orleans entering 2021.

While the Saints do have to worry about their future in life in the post-Brees era, they are centered on more important goals for the upcoming season: a Super Bowl.

Which means finding the right backup for Brees while chasing that Super Bowl takes immediate priority over who will end up starting at quarterback for the Saints in 2021 or beyond.
