Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Dez Bryant saw his 2018 season come to an abrupt end before it ever got truly started as he suffered a torn Achilles tendon on his second practice with the New Orleans Saints last week.

It was a difficult situation that saw him possibly lose out on a huge career opportunity with the franchise this season. That said, his replacement former Pro Bowl wideout Brandon Marshall voiced that he believes Bryant should have been on a roster prior to the start of this 2018 campaign. “He should have never been in that situation, meaning that Dez Bryant, he’s still a talent,” Marshall said. “[He] should have been on someone’s roster in OTAs and [training] camp.”

Although Bryant has had a notable drop in production over the last three seasons, falling to reach 1,000 receiving yards, there has been no denying that he is still an extremely talented wide receiver. He has proven to be a huge asset in the red zone and could step into nearly any situation to be either the primary receiving target or among the main factors in the passing game.

This injury now potential pushes him back into a situation where he may potentially lose a step or some more of the physical ability that he once had. It is a major ailment that often times changes the career trajectory of players following their return, losing some of that same burst they once had.

However, it is a chance for Bryant to refocus and work his way back to the field to be ready in time for the start of the 2019 season. This is another motivating factor for him to prove his doubters wrong while extending his NFL career with either the Saints or another team. It is a disappointing situation that he has found himself in, but it's simply another obstacle for him to get past.
