When the New Orleans Saints lost Drew Brees to a thumb injury in Week 2, many thought that their season was over.

However, then-backup Teddy Bridgewater has done a remarkable job filling in under center, leading the Saints to a 5-0 record since Brees went down.

Brees now seems to be pushing to play in New Orleans' Week 8 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, and if he is ready to go, it would be the end of Bridgewater's run as the starting quarterback.

However, Bridgewater is loving every second of learning from the 40-year-old:

“When you have a guy like Drew, it's like sitting next to the refrigerator and if you don't open the refrigerator, then you are a fool,” said Bridgewater, according to Katherine Terrell of The Athletic. “You know what I mean? And you are going to starve. But Drew is that guy who you can lean on in a time of need.”

Since taking over for Brees in the first quarter of the Saints' Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Bridgewater has thrown for 1,370 yards, nine touchdowns and a couple of interceptions while completing 67.7 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 98.9.

Of course, it also helps that Bridgewater has solid experience as a starter.

Remember: Bridgewater was the Minnesota Vikings' starting quarterback in 2014 and 2015 and may very well have still been the full-time starter today had it not been for a devastating knee injury during the summer of 2016 that effectively ended his tenure as the Vikings' signal-caller.
