New Orleans Saints veteran quarterback Drew Brees is finally back on the gridiron after missing five straight weeks recovering from thumb surgery. The 40-year-old signal-caller may have heard fans pleading to stick with backup Teddy Bridgewater—who led New Orleans to a 5-0 record in Brees' stead—but Brees returned against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday and threw a touchdown to running back Latavius Murray (via NFL).

Brees found Murray by the sideline for the 15-yard reception as the 29-year-old backfield playmaking skipped around defenders into the end zone, extending the Saints' lead to 17-6.

Through three quarters in his big-time return, Brees is 27/36, recording 278 passing yards, the touchdown to Murray, and one interception. While nobody is expecting Brees to return to his superstar form just back from surgery, the Saints are a deep team that can easily separate itself from competition with great quarterbacking. With Bridgewater's help in Brees' absence, the Saints won five straight games.

Now Brees has a chance to snap the Cardinals' three-game winning streak at home in the SuperDome.
