Taysom Hill is arguably the most unique weapon in the NFL. The 6-foot-2, 221-pound athlete is officially listed on the New Orleans Saints roster as a quarterback and, while he has certainly appeared at that position for the team, Hill can realistically play receiver, tight end, special teams, and just about everything in between.

Coming out of BYU, Hill was one of the best athletes in school history. As a fifth-year dual-threat quarterback, Hill led BYU to multiple successful seasons. However, a long list of injuries really hindered Hill's draft stock and he wasn't seen as a starting quality quarterback in the league. It also didn't help that Hill was already 26 years old coming out college

Despite a 4.44 40-yard dash and 38.5-inch vertical leap, Hill would go undrafted in the 2017 draft. He got a shot with the Green Bay Packers before later being released where he eventually ended up with the Saints.

After not playing much his rookie season, Hill burst onto the scene in 2018. As the third-string quarterback, Hill would be used mainly as a runner and pass-catcher on specially designed and trick plays. Still, Hill played that role well, ending the season with two rushing touchdowns and nearly 200 yards.

The former BYU star's role increased even more this season as Saints head coach Sean Payton made it a priority to get the unique weapon involved in the team's offense — especially in the passing game.

Instead of throwing passes, Hill would excel at catching them. Hill was so good as a receiver/tight end hybrid that his six receiving touchdowns this season ranked third on the team behind Michael Thomas and Jared Cook — not bad for a backup quarterback.

Payton reportedly wanted to turn former Heisman winner Tim Tebow into a similar type player a few years prior. With similar stature and athletic ability, Hill is becoming what Tebow had the potential to be if he wasn't so set on being a quarterback.

As far as Hill's future, it's interesting to think about. Backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater likely did more than enough to earn himself a big contract for another team and future Hall of Famer Drew Brees, at 41, is likely nearing the end of his career.

Can Hill be the heir apparent to Brees, I wouldn't think so. Hill can absolutely sling the ball, but I'm not too sure he's capable of being an every-week starting QB in the NFL. Regardless, it's obvious that Payton is a big fan of Hill and what he brings to the table for New Orleans so there's no doubt that the 6-foot-2 athlete will have a role in the future.

I don't think he will ever be a star but Hill gives the Saints an unparalleled weapon at their disposal. Hill can absolutely be one of the top red zone options for New Orleans in the future while still being dangerous as both a runner and occasional passer

Hill is technically a restricted free agent this offseason but I doubt that Payton will let one of his favorite weapons leave New Orleans. Hill is an effective part of the Saints offense and I'm not sure that he would be as effective in any other system.
