Houston Rockets swingman Sam Dekker has been declared out for 3-4 weeks after being diagnosed with a fractured left hand, the team announced on Sunday night.

Dekker sustained the injury at the 5:23 mark of the fourth quarter, after going for a loose ball against the Phoenix Suns — resulting in the forward immediately clutching his hand in pain.

“It was a loose ball,” Dekker told Rockets.com. “It [his left hand] got pinned up. I knew right away. Things happen. It's basketball. I'll be back. I hope I can get back and help the team in the playoffs.”

The second-year forward was optimistic following the diagnosis, giving encouraging words to the fanbase and expecting to be back at some point in the playoffs.

Due to the timeline for his recovery, the Rockets would have to make it at least into the Western Conference semifinals for him to rejoin the rotation at the earliest stage.

The 22-year-old has been a welcome sight for Clutch City, averaging 6.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and one assist in 77 games this season while playing a more consistent role with the team in 18.4 minutes per game.
