LaMarcus Aldridge made headlines yesterday when reports surfaced that the San Antonio Spurs may look into trading him at some point this season.

According to the report, the “experiment” hasn't quite worked out as the Spurs have hoped.

These reports were sent the way of sources close to the Spurs via Jeff McDonald and Jabari Young of the San Antonio Express-News and here's the information they revealed:

Spurs sources denied the report, saying no talks have occurred with any team….

They do not enter 2016-17 with the immediate intention of rebuilding in aftermath of Tim Duncan’s retirement. They did not sign Pau Gasol to a $31 million contract and bring Manu Ginobili back at $14 million with designs on scrapping everything and starting over.

Still, if their season goes unexpectedly south, league sources believe the Spurs might be tempted to investigate what return they might get for Aldridge.

That's the key phrase here, “if their season goes unexpectedly south.” And that's all the reported suggested, too. If the Spurs come out of the gates on fire and all looks well, of course they aren't going to look to trade Aldridge.

At the same time, San Antonio has to be on the look out for all of the right moves. Maybe Aldridge hasn't exactly been perfect over there and the franchise believes it can get more value back by trading him.

The Spurs are now in the post-Duncan era and they're going to be taking some time to figure out exactly which direction they want to go. We know that includes Kawhi Leonard as the centerpiece but maybe Aldridge won't be a part of those plans.
