Although he has already held a higher position with an NBA team before, newly hired New York Knicks general manager, Scott Perry, still admitted that it was his dream job to become a GM.

The 53-year-old is no stranger to front office work, as he was the vice president of basketball operations and assistant GM for the Orlando Magic before accepting the Knicks’ offer. The job vacancy he took is a high profile one, given the big decisions that have to be made for the team this summer and that they represent a big market city, New York.

Perry recently spoke with Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated where he shared his excitement of being part of a storied franchise like the Knicks. He then explained what he believes needs to do in order to help make the team a winning group once again.

“To have this opportunity to come to New York in the role of general manager, personally, it’s a very humbling time too. I have been grinding in the game for 30 years. I spent 13 years as a college coach. I have had the peaks and valleys and all in-between.

“I am a guy who always sees the positive in things. I see great potential there. Look, you’re in New York City. The Knicks franchise is known around the globe. You just need some time, patience, organization and to put it together right.”

Team owner James Dolan and company may have taken some time before hiring a new GM, but it appears that Perry may just be what they need to help them become successful. His positivity is something that he can rub off every employee working under him, which could change the culture they have right now. If he’ll also have that effect to the players, it could mean more wins and the start of the turnaround for the franchise which their fans have long been waiting for. Should that happen, not only does he have his dream job, but he will be doing a great job at it as well.
