Former Chicago Bulls swingman and six-time NBA champion Scottie Pippen will join ESPN as an NBA analyst, a source with knowledge told The Big Lead.

While a formal announcement is yet to be made, Pippen is expected to be on air for about 50 dates during the upcoming NBA season, the majority of them coming on the show The Jump, hosted by Rachel Nichols which debuted last season.

NBA Countdown will rotate its hosts between Michelle Beadle and Sage Steele this season. Jalen Rose is still expected to remain a lock on the show.

Doug Collins will go from being a studio analyst to a color commentator during games broadcasted by the big network.

ESPN is still not set on the studio analyst roster for this upcoming year. The source said ESPN is “casting a wide net,” and confirmed it has included “exploratory” talks with Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant.

These two names make particular sense since they are both really popular personalities in the Los Angeles area, where the show is taped. Both of them are looked at as very unlikely choices since they are both focused on the business side of things at this point in their careers.

In-house possibilities from ESPN for the show include Chauncey Billups and Tracy McGrady, both former NBA players that have shown quality analytical work and charisma to work alongside of.
