Sea of Thieves by Rare and Microsoft is hosting the final chapter for its season six story arc which features a new voyage, new items, and cosmetics. Most importantly, it features an in-game event where players can be in a massive conflict where players can either save or destroy a pirate outpost known as the Golden Sands. While the location is currently destroyed in-game, players can either save it and restore it to its former glory or keep it destroyed and see what will pop up in its place once the season ends.

As the event progresses, Rare has been doing everything they can to encourage players to get active and get vocal about their efforts, which of course includes speaking up on social media. Many players have indeed made their voices heard on the matter, as both #SaveGoldenSands and #RuinGoldenSands have both been seen trending on Twitter at some point. Rare has even gone as far as to release limited-time t-shirts with hashtags for players to show their support.

As it currently stands, it seems that the public reception for the event mainly leans towards saving the Golden Sands, but both sides have discussed their talking points for both saving and destroying the location. A discussion over on the official r/Seaofthieves subreddit has players expressing their views over why they wish to see the Golden Sands destroyed, which many players stating that destroying the game world holds more opportunities for changes and new experiences.

Overall, players have been enjoying the conflict and the banter that has come along with it. The event will not be around for much longer, as the results of the event will conclude on June 8th, 2022.

Sea of Thieves is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Windows Store.
