With the Seattle Seahawks apparently parting with free agent defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, it appears they are looking at some other veteran free-agent pass rushers.

According to Michael Silver of NFL Network, Seattle may be keeping tabs on Clay Matthews and Everson Griffen in free agency.

Neither of those two names might come with the same exclamation mark that signing Clowney would at this stage in their respective careers for the Seahawks. However, both Matthews and Griffen have incredible resumes and could still bring a lot to a team in 2020. Most importantly, both would likely come at a much lower price tag that Clowney would at the moment.

Matthews is a six-time Pro Bowler and was a first-team All-Pro selection once. He has 91.5 career sacks and even racked up eight last season. There is clearly still something left in the tank.

Meanwhile, Griffen is a four-time Pro Bowler. He has 74.5 career sacks and just like Matthews, managed to rack up eight in 2019.

Both players enjoyed nice bounce-back seasons in 2019 after experiencing somewhat disappointing 2018 campaigns. The question would be if they could repeat that success in 2020 for Seattle.

But they could be worth the risk. Neither player is going to come with a high price tag. And worst case scenario, both players bring a winning resume and great locker-room leadership.

The Seahawks would be smart to look into both options and see what move makes the most sense for the team. Who knows, maybe they decide to bring in both. You certainly can never have too many pass rushers.
