The New England Patriots are set to take on the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football in Week 2 and Bill Belichick had nothing but praise for Russell Wilson. During his press conference on Thursday, Belichick indirectly called Wilson the best quarterback in the NFL.

“Honestly, I think he’s in a way maybe underrated by the media or the fans, I don’t know. I don’t really see anybody better than this player,” Belichick said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN.com.

When most people share their opinion on the best quarterback in the NFL, Patrick Mahomes js typically the first name mentioned. However, Wilson definitely deserves some recognition for his consistency with the Seahawks.

Despite playing in a run-oriented offense in Seattle, Wilson has continued to put up gaudy numbers under center. Although, if Week 1 is a sign of things to come, Wilson may get a chance to throw more often this season.

The cerebral signal-caller completed 31 of his 35 attempts in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons for 322 yards. While tossing four touchdowns to various pass-catchers, Wilson also added 29 yards with his legs. As a result, Wilson became the second player in NFL history to total 30,000 passing yards and 4,000 rushing yards in his career.

For the majority of his career, Russell Wilson has gone underrated by fans and the media alike. For all his consistent dominance, he's failed to win an NFL MVP award. Even though he doesn't get the praise he deserves, Belichick knows just how good Wilson is. And while he's confident in Cam Newton as his new quarterback, Belichick understands that slowing down Wilson will be crucial to New England's success on Sunday night.
