Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner is one of the best defensive players in the league and on Friday took a big step towards being in Seattle for the rest of his career. Wagner signed a three-year contract extension on Friday and told the team website after that this puts him one step closer to being a Seahawk for life.

“I’m really excited to have this done, excited that I get to be a Seahawk for a long, long time,” Wagner told the team website. “Like I’ve always said, I want to play my entire career here, and I feel like today is a step toward that.

“It feels amazing being here. I’ve watched people stay; I’ve watched people go, and to have the trust from the organization to continue to let me lead this team, lead the defense, it’s a great feeling. I’m excited to get back to work.”

The Seahawks have moved on from a lot of their important guys on defense the last few years, but they decided that Wagner was one of the guys they wanted to keep around long term. Since coming into the league in 2012 Wagner has made five Pro Bowls and also earned All-Pro four times.

Seahawks general manager John Schnieder also talked about how excited everyone is inside the building that Wagner is sticking around for a few more years. The Seahawks have high expectations for this season and the years to come and if they want to compete for another Super Bowl, Wagner is going to need to be an anchor of the defense.
