A day after the Seattle Seahawks were stunned in the NFC Wild Card Round by the Los Angeles Rams, the team has begun trying to make sense of the upset.

Speaking with reporters during his final media availability of the 2020 NFL season, veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner was among those that believed the Seahawks were about to embark on a deep postseason run before losing to the Rams.

“I definitely feel like we had the group to go further than what we did,’’  Wagner said, via Zoom according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “It feels weird that we’re done. I didn’t expect that. I didn’t think that at all.’’

Fellow linebacker K.J. Wright similarly expressed his shock, telling reporters that he had his eyes set on another Super Bowl appearance for the Seattle-based franchise.

While the first-round loss was clearly not the result the Seahawks were hoping for after securing their first division title since 2016, the team has made a habit of underperforming in the postseason in recent years. Since appearing in back-to-back Super Bowls in 2013 and 2014, Seattle has failed to advance past the divisional round. During that time, they have made five playoff appearances and hold a record of only 3-5.

With Seattle facing the prospect of losing multiple key contributors, including Wright, there is no guarantee that the Seahawks will continue to stay atop a division that is only getting better. Given the San Francisco 49ers' expected improvement and the growth of the Arizona Cardinals, Seattle will have multiple hurdles to clear beyond the ever-dangerous Rams if they are to get back to the playoffs.

Though they are understandably still reeling from their shocking loss, the Seahawks will quickly need to turn their attention to next season if they hope to remedy their disappointment.
