Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle Chad Wheeler was arrested Saturday on suspicion of felony domestic violence and was accused of assaulting his girlfriend and even strangling her until she lost consciousness, per The Seattle Times.

Wheeler was booked in the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle at 1:19 a.m. on Saturday. He eventually appeared in King County District Court two days later with the bail being set at $400,000. He got out on bond Tuesday and has another hearing set for Wednesday.

The alleged incident happened at a residence in Kent. According to a report from the Kent Police Department, police responded to a call made by a woman who was allegedly locked in a bathroom after getting in a “physical fight” with her boyfriend. The alleged victim further claimed that she was being “killed” when she made the call to 911, and she was found to have sustained a dislocated arm and was bleeding.

Based on the report, police officers heard screaming in an apartment unit when they arrived at the scene. The screaming became even louder when they forced their way in. The officers eventually made it to the bathroom and found the victim inside, with the Seahawks player standing beside her.

Further details from the report emerged stating that Chad Wheeler was uncooperative and even refused to talk to officers. He has reportedly been on medication for bipolar disorder but had not been attended to as of late. After Wheeler was caught, the victim was eventually sent to Valley Medical Center in Kent to treat the injuries sustained from the incident.

Reports from the incident indicated that Wheeler allegedly asked the victim to bow to him, but she refused to do so. In turn, the player grabbed her and threw her to the bed. Wheeler then allegedly strangled the victim before she lost consciousness, though she eventually regained it afterward.

The victim ran straight to the bathroom to make the call to 911, but Wheeler followed her and made his way to pick the lock of the door before police officers came to the scene.

The Seahawks organization has already been informed of the matter and responded with this statement on Chad Wheeler: “We are aware of the situation and still gathering information.”
