Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Ezekiel Ansah has been cleared to make his debut in his team's Week 3 matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, according to Brady Henderson of ESPN.com.

The Seahawks signed Ansah back in May after he underwent shoulder surgery to repair an injury that limited him to just seven games during his final season with the Detroit Lions.

Ansah made great headway in his recovery over the summer and appeared to be on track to play in Week 1, but a groin injury in mid-August slowed his progress.

Now, Ansah appears ready to go:

“Ziggy's ready to play, ready to play football,” said head coach Pete Carroll. “So we're excited to see that. It's been a really good process to get him to this, where he's in good shape, too. He's worked hard and long, so he's in better shape than sometimes when a guy is just coming back. So we'll be able to get him a bunch of plays here in this game and look forward to his participation with us.”

Ansah, who played his collegiate football at BYU, was originally selected by the Lions with the fifth overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He immediately made an impact during his rookie campaign, posting 30 tackles and eight sacks. He then went on to make the Pro Bowl during his third season after racking up 47 tackles and 14.5 sacks.

Seattle is hoping Ansah can help fill the void left by fellow pass rusher Frank Clark, whom the Seahawks traded to the Kansas City Chiefs during the offseason.

The Seahawks are aiming to get off to a three 3-0 start this weekend.
