So far, Geno Smith's career hasn't gone according to plan. Smith is now with the Seattle Seahawks and he believes he is ready to take a step forward in his career.

When talking about his current situation, Geno Smith says he's a starter, he just needs another opportunity. Smith is on his fourth team as he enters his seventh season in the NFL.

“I got a lot of confidence in myself,” Smith told reporters on Friday per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “I know that I can do a lot of things on the field, I believe that I am a starter, I just need another opportunity.”

Currently, Smith is in a battle for the Seahawks' backup quarterback job with Paxton Lynch. Both quarterbacks are in similar situations where they are trying to prove that they can start in the NFL again.

It's likely that whoever loses the battle as Russell Wilson's backup will be cut. Smith doesn't want to be the odd man out but he also wants another shot to start under center.

Smith began his career with the New York Jets after being selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, Smith struggled with the Jets as the starter. As a rookie, the Jets went 8-8 with Smith throwing 12 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.

Then, in 2014, Smith continued to struggle as the starter as the team was 3-10 in the games he started in. New York would bench Smith later in the 2014 season and would name Michael Vick the starter.

Since then, Smith has served as the backup on every team he has played for—including the Los Angeles Chargers and New York Giants. Maybe playing behind Russell Wilson can help land Smith a starting job in the future.
