After signing Russell Wilson to a record-breaking contract extension, the Seattle Seahawks will likely try and turn their attention to defensive end Frank Clark. While Clark has been clamoring for a new deal, Seahawks general manager John Schneider doesn’t expect him to hold out of practice for it.

While speaking about Clark’s position on the team and his future as a Seahawk, he told Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times (via Pro Football Talk) that he doesn’t expect Clark to miss any time if the team can’t come to an agreement on a long-term deal this summer.

“That’s not my understanding at all,” Schneider said. “We’ve had very direct conversations, both myself and Frank and people in the organization and Frank and obviously myself and his agent, Erik Burkhardt.”

Schneider also spoke on the apparent trade rumors surrounding Clark, and acknowledged that it’s simply the Seahawks checking all of their available options.

“We are always trying to understand what the landscape is throughout the National Football League,” he said. “If we didn’t, we wouldn’t be doing our job. We can’t ever have our head in the sand with anything. But we love Frank, obviously. That’s why we franchised him.”

Rumors suggest that Clark won’t be signing a franchise tag or attending training camp, but it seems clear that Schneider doesn’t necessarily agree with that. While Clark would likely love the change to hit the open market and make some major money, signing the franchise tag in 2019 would at least give him $16 million for the year, and for Clark – who has been on his rookie deal since 2015 – that would be a huge leap in money.
