When Jadeveon Clowney made his way to the Seattle Seahawks via a trade from the Houston Texans, he brought him with his superstar abilities. Unfortunately, his number had to stay in Houston, and getting to wear number 90 in Seattle ended up costing him.

When he joined the Seahawks, he joined a team that already had someone wearing the number. Jarran Reed – who is currently serving a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy – wore the number ever since his time at Alabama. However, he now wears number 91, and it’s because Clowney was able to pull it away from him.

Clowney was asked just how he was able to get the number when he got to Seattle, and according to the pass rusher, it didn’t come cheap.

“I’ll let him tell you when he gets back,” Clowney told 710 ESPN Seattle (via Seahawks Wire) when asked for details. “It wasn’t cheap, I’ll tell you that.”

“He’s good, he’s a great player,” Clowney said. “I knew he wasn’t going to come up off it cheap, so I was expecting to pay for it… He had a great season last year with 10 1/2 sacks, so for him to come in with 10 1/2 sacks and still give me a chance to get that jersey was big, so I appreciate him for that.”

Reed is no slouch on the football field himself, as he’s coming off of a stellar 2018 year that saw him record 50 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 12 tackles for a loss, and 24 quarterbacks. Once he’s eligible to return in Week 7, he’ll help fortify a Seahawks defensive line that once again aims to be one of the best in football.
