It looks like the Seattle Seahawks won't be paying a big paycheck to Jamal Adams for now, that is. After the team acquired the star safety from the New York Jets, they have also inherited the remaining years on his rookie contract.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Adams agreed to play out the 2020 season on the terms of his rookie contract, which will pay him $3.9 million guaranteed. The team also made “no promises” it would renegotiate his deal ahead of 2021 when Adams is due to make $9.9 million on his fifth-year option.

In order to land Adams and an additional 2022 fourth-round pick, the Seahawks traded first-round picks in both 2021 and 2022, a 2021 third-round selection and veteran safety Bradley McDougald to the Jets.

Jamal Adams began his football journey in LSU where was a key piece in the powerhouse team's defense for three years. He was then selected by the New York Jets with the sixth overall pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In his rookie year, he earned inclusion in the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2017 before becoming a second-team All-Pro in 2018. Last season, he was named to the first-team All-Pro in just his third season in the league.

Unfortunately, his individual accolades were not enough to drive the Jets back to the playoff picture. The team ended on a subpar 7-9 record, finishing third in the AFC East division led by the New England Patriots. Frustrations and pointless contract negotiations ended Adams' tenure in the Big Apple.

For the upcoming season, the two-time Pro Bowler will put his attention towards helping a Seahawks squad make a deeper run in the playoffs. A change in scenery may very well be what Adams needed in order to take his career to the next level.
