The Seattle Seahawks have been one of the surprises around the league this season having pushed their way to secure one of the wildcard playoff positions.

This has been a resurgent campaign by the Seahawks under head coach Pete Carroll that has earned him a contract extension that runs through the 2021 campaign. With that in mind, Jason Whitlock of Fox Sports said that he believes that Carroll should be recognized as the second-best coach in the league.

“Pete Carroll is establishing himself as the 2nd best coach in the NFL For this dude to run out the Legion of Boom and reinvent it with a different group led by Bobby Wagner to do that over again. Then to transition to the offense the way that he has and figure out a way to protect Russell Wilson and just to play a whole different style to say all the others in the league going pass happy we are going to run the ball and let this guy make timely throws. Pete Carroll is a better coach than Andy Reid.”

There is a strong argument to be made that he is one of the top coaches in the NFL behind their reinvented identity. The Seahawks have re-established themselves a legitimate playoff team behind the play of their defense along with a strong running game.

They currently lead the NFL with the top-ranked rushing attack while star quarterback Russell Wilson has continued to play at an elite level to showcase why he is one of the league's top quarterbacks. Meanwhile, their defense without their familiar faces in Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, and Earl Thomas for various reasons has been a huge factor to their success.

All of this has the Seahawks in an opportune position to possibly be a darkhorse team to make a serious run in the playoffs.
