The Seattle Seahawks claimed wide receiver Josh Gordon off waivers on Friday, but head coach Pete Carroll says Gordon will not play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, according to Joe Fann of NBC Sports Northwest. Gordon will make his Seahawks debut versus the San Francisco 49ers in Week 10.
Gordon began the 2019 campaign with the New England Patriots, playing in six games before missing Week 7 due to a knee issue. The Patriots then placed him on the injured reserve list, a strange move considering that Gordon's injury was not thought to be that severe.
It was then revealed that New England planned on releasing Gordon, and on Thursday, it waived the wide out.
The Pats were reportedly not happy with Gordon's work ethic, as he was late to some team meetings and was difficult for coaches to locate on occasion.
Throw in the fact that Gordon was not all that productive, logging just 20 catches for 287 yards and a touchdown, and the Patriots decided it was best to cut ties with the former Pro Bowler.
The 28-year-old initially linked up with New England in September 2018, coming over in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. He played in 11 games with the Pats last season before he announced he would be stepping away from football to focus on his mental health.
Gordon was then hit with an indefinite suspension for violating the NFL's drug policy.
He was reinstated in August.
The Seahawks are 6-2 on the year.
