It’s now been over three years since the most infamous play call in Seattle Seahawks history. With Super Bowl XLIX in the balance, the Seahawks decided to pass at the one-yard line instead of handing the ball off to star running back Marshawn Lynch. The pass was intercepted and the Seahawks lost in heart-breaking fashion.

In a discussion with Matt Barnes on Uniterrupted.com, Lynch recalled what exactly went down inside the Seahawks huddle upon hearing the controversial play call.

“Confusion,” Lynch said, “and the confusion was from everybody else in the huddle.”

Lynch said the rest of his teammates instantly looked at him upon hearing the play. But he claims he’s not upset about the play or about quarterback Russell Wilson’s decision not to call an audible. He also doesn’t seem too worked up about the fact that they ultimately lost the Super Bowl with that play and chooses to have a more big-picture perspective on the whole situation.

“To win a Super Bowl and to lose a Super Bowl in the fashion that we did lose it in, like I mean it don’t get no better for a person,” Lynch said. “All it do is at the end of the day is it tests your character, and in the face of adversity it shows who the f–k you is. You win some, you lose some, but you live.”

Without question, that one play had huge ramifications on the Seahawks. Not only did it cost them a second-straight title, but it also caused the Seahawks to question head coach Pete Carroll.

Obviously, not everyone is willing to be quite as forgiving of the controversial play call as Lynch is. But in the grand scheme of things, Lynch has the healthy and correct point of view about it and people still hung up on the call even after all these years should do the same.
