Some people want more instant replay. Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll wants it abolished completely, or at least minimized.

“Get rid of — or at least decrease the use of — instant replay,” Carroll said, according to Peter King of NBC Sports. “I get all the reasons why we have instant replay, and technology has opened up a new world for us to get to this point. But I miss the human element of trusting the officials to make the calls in the moment and then the rest of us having to live with what they called. It was both fun and frustrating, but I really liked the game better when the officials were just as much a part of the game as the players.”

The use of instant replay has always been a hot topic in the NFL, but after the New Orleans Saints lost the NFC Championship Game to the Los Angeles Rams largely due to the result of a no-call on pass interference, many suggested expanding replay to make pass interference a reviewable offense.

They ended up getting their wish, as NFL owners voted on making pass interference calls and non-calls reviewable back in March.

It's odd to hear a coach in favor of not only keeping pass interference non-reviewable, but getting rid of instant replay altogether, but Carroll obviously wishes that the “human element” of the game remained intact.

Regardless, we shouldn't have any more controversial calls in terms of pass interference moving forward, and perhaps Carroll's Seahawks will benefit from that sometime down the line.
