The Seattle Seahawks are signing wide receiver Phillip Dorsett on a one-year deal, according to Josina Anderson of ESPN.

Dorsett spent the last three seasons with the New England Patriots and is coming off of a disappointing 2019 campaign in which he played 14 games and logged 29 catches for 397 yards and five touchdowns.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami, was originally selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the first round (29th pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 11 contests during his rookie year, finishing with 18 grabs for 225 yards and a score. The following season, Dorsett's role grew, as he participated in 15 games and caught 31 passes for 528 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

In spite of Dorsett's improvement in Year 2, it was becoming increasingly obvious that he was a disappointment for being a first-round pick, and just before the 2017 season began, the Colts traded Dorsett to the Patriots for quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

It should be noted that Indianapolis was in desperate need of a quarterback at the time, as Andrew Luck was sidelined as a result of shoulder issues.

Dorsett played in 15 games in his first season in New England, but his impact was very limited, as he totaled a meager 12 catches for 194 yards. Then, in 2018, Dorsett snared 32 balls for 290 yards while reaching the end zone three times.

Dorsett's role in Foxborough was expected to grow this past year, but even with an increased opportunity due to a shaky Pats receiving corps overall, he was unable to deliver.

The Seahawks are hoping that he can be an impact player in their offense.
