The Los Angeles Lakers made the big splash move of the NBA offseason with the addition of All-Star forward LeBron James on a four-year, $154 million deal on Sunday night. This announcement has drawn plenty of reaction from around the league including the other professional sports in the country. It is is a franchise-altering move that has now put the Lakers back into relevancy in the league with arguably the best player in the NBA on the roster leading the charge. James is also still playing some of the best basketball of his career despite being 15 years into his illustrious career. Although there is still much shuffling needed to first be done with the roster, this has prompted championship expectations on the franchise.
That said, it is quite clear how significant this move is given that it has drawn the reaction from professional athletes from other sports. James is currently the most recognizable face in the NBA among active players that make any decision that he conducts draw a huge level of scrutiny. It simply a move that alters much of the landscape of the league that could lead several other teams to react to that significant move.
All of this should lead to an enticing season for the Lakers to finally land a superstar in the offseason that can change the culture in Los Angeles while bringing the franchise back to being a powerhouse in the NBA. This is just a preview of what is likely to come in the next few months when James takes the floor for one of the most illustrious organizations in all of the professional sports where the excitement and buzz will be through the roof.
