Quinton Dunbar informed the Washington Redskins that he wanted to be traded or released earlier this offseason and they granted his wish this week. After being traded to the Seattle Seahawks, Dunbar admitted that he wanted to be in Seattle (via Pro Football Talk/ESPN 710 Seattle):

“Before the trade was given I had an opportunity with a couple of teams and I wanted to go to Seattle … At the end of the day I feel like it’s a perfect situation for me to go out there and play for a team that competes for a championship every year. So I’m just looking forward to that and everything will take care of itself. I just wanted a new beginning and I’m just going to go out there and help in whichever way I can. Everything else will take care of itself.”

Entering the 2020 season, Dunbar was slated to make $3.25 million in the final year of his contract. As a result, Dunbar was seeking to get a long-term extension with the Redskins. At the same time, Dunbar made it clear that his contract situation wasn't the only reason he wanted out of Washington.

Dunbar has spent the past five seasons with the Redskins, starting in the most games of his career in 2019. This past season, the receiver-turned-cornerback notched 37 tackles, eight deflections and a career-best four interceptions.

While he was with Washington, Dunbar only got to play in the postseason once in his career in his rookie campaign. The idea of playing on a winning team like the Seahawks likely piqued Dunbar's interest before he was traded.
