In the last several weeks, the Seattle Seahawks have undergone major changes to the roster on the defensive side of the ball. It has seen many notable players depart in either free agency or through a trade this offseason.

Among those departures is All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman, who quickly signed with the San Francisco 49ers after his release. In response to this mass turnover in Seattle, Sherman stated during a recent interview on Uninterrupted‘s ThomaHawk podcast with Joe Thomas and Andrew Hawkins that his former team has “lost their way” in terms of evaluating talent (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk)

“They’ve kind of lost their way a little bit in terms of how they see players and how they evaluate players,” Sherman said.

There have been several key defensive players that have found a new home in the NFL with the team trading defensive end Michael Bennett to the Philadelphia Eagles, cutting both Sherman and fellow cornerback DeShawn Shead, and letting defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson walk in free agency to sign a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings. On top of that, there has been constant chatter around Earl Thomas being the next star defensive player with the Seahawks to find his way out as trade rumors are swirling.

Seattle is coming off a disappointing season after missing the playoffs for the first time in six years, but the team was tagged with several major injuries to cornerstone players on the defensive side of the ball. This only made it reasonable to see somewhat of a drop off in the 2017 campaign. Instead, it quickly became a situation where the franchise felt it was best to shake things up in order to get back to being a playoff team and possible Super Bowl contender

Ultimately, time will tell if this was the right move for the Seahawks to make these changes to get them moving back in the right direction.
