Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and his wife Ciara are doing what they can to stop the spread of the coronavirus and support the communities affected by the pandemic.

Wilson posted a one-minute video on Twitter on Tuesday detailing that he and Ciara are donating 1 million meals to Food Lifeline through the Feeding America nationwide network — a much-needed donation considering many families are struggling due to COVID-19.

“The coronavirus is changing the world. Second by second, minute by minute,” Wilson said. “People are losing loved ones, the elderly and the young — people inbetween. You think about, people losing jobs.”

Per the New York Times, the coronavirus has now affected all 50 states in the U.S. with 5,726 confirmed cases and over 100 dead. Worldwide, that number leaps to nearly 200,000 cases with 7,987 deaths.

Within the U.S., Washington state and the Seattle area are among the heaviest affected by the virus. Washington has the second most COVID-19 cases with 894, and the 54 deaths in the state are the most in the country.

On its website, Feeding America states that it “secures and distributes 4.3 billion meals each year through food pantries and meal programs throughout the United States and leads the nation to engage in the fight against hunger.”

On the field, Wilson continues to be one of the premier quarterbacks in the NFL. The 31-year-old completed 66.1 percent of his passes for 4,110 yards, 31 touchdowns and only five interceptions while adding 342 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Russell Wilson's stellar play led the Seahawks to an 11-5 regular-season record before they were eliminated by the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
