After a report surfaced Monday night stating Russell Wilson's camp is frustrated with his lack of protection, the Seattle Seahawks quarterback came out and admitted the truth on Tuesday.

Wilson essentially confirmed the report:

Russell Wilson has a point. He has been hit a ton over the past couple of years, and in 2020 he was sacked in all but two games, including being sacked four or more times in seven games. He took 52 sacks total, including the five in the playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Protecting quarterbacks is important; just ask Patrick Mahomes after he got mauled in the Super Bowl. While Wilson apparently hasn't asked for a trade, he's going to be monitoring the Seahawks' moves closely, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

The fact that Russell Wilson is unhappy needs to be a huge concern for Seattle before he decides to request a trade. The Seahawks fired offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and hired Shane Waldron, who used to be with the Rams.

Despite the outrageous number of sacks Wilson took in 2020, his numbers were quite good. He finished the year with 4,212 yards and a career-high 40 touchdowns, though he did struggle down the stretch of the season and was bad in the playoff loss.

Protecting the quarterback is necessary for the NFL, and with the NFC West having guys like Aaron Donald and Nick Bosa rushing the quarterback, the Seahawks need to find ways to keep Russell Wilson upright and let him do what he does best: throw the football and make spectacular plays.
