The Seattle Seahawks have officially shifted gears towards the offseason following their playoff loss to the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round. Among their list of priorities will be working on a long-term deal with quarterback Russell Wilson.

There has been plenty of talk about a lucrative extension being in the works for Wilson. But according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, the QB is in no rush to get it done before the 2019 NFL season:

“Oh, yeah, if that’s what I’ve got to do,’’ Wilson said. “It’s business and everything else and I know essentially after this season I could potentially be a free agent, that kind of thing. I don’t think that way — I see myself being in Seattle. I love Seattle, special place for me. I also understand it’s a business world and everything else.”

Wilson's current contract expires at the end of the 2019 campaign. It's clear that he is more than willing to play out the year without a new deal, however, it would be wise for Seattle to get it done as soon as possible. After all, Wilson is coming off perhaps the best season of his stellar career thus far.

It's no secret that Wilson has been the centerpiece of Seattle's offense over the last several years. He has somehow managed to get better with each season. Wilson threw for a career-high 35 touchdowns and a career-low seven interceptions in the 2018 campaign, and his efficiency was the sole reason the Seahawks managed to shatter expectations this season. Head coach Pete Carroll's recent comments regarding Wilson's situation all but confirmed he will remain in Seattle for years to come.
