The Seattle Seahawks pulled out a huge 21-7 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, which has all but secured them a spot in the playoffs.
This turned out to be a game dominated by the Seahawks' suffocating defense, which didn't allow the Vikings to find any fluidity on the field until a late touchdown drive in the fourth quarter. It was a defensive performance that star quarterback Russell Wilson lauded following the contest, according to Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.
“That was huge how our defense was just battling and battling,” Wilson said after the game. “They were really special tonight. It was really cool just to see how we stayed together. It was great just to see play after play, guys were making plays. The fans were electric tonight too just to feel that presence. They’re always huge for us. We’re excited about where we are and there’s still a lot more to do. There’s still so many ways that we can get better and we’re going to get better and that starts with me and I’m looking forward to that and how many great things we have in store. We really believe in what we’re doing and how we’re doing it.”
Seattle's swarming defense made all the difference as Wilson had his own struggles throwing the ball throughout the night. He completed 10-of-20 passes for 70 yards along with an interception and held a 37.9 passer rating. He was effective with his legs with 61 rushing yards on seven attempts, which largely came from a 40-yard run in the fourth quarter.
The Seahawks' defense has been the difference-maker over the last several weeks, which has helped their surge up the standings toward securing a playoff spot. This was evident against the Vikings as they held them to just one scoring drive while they converted just 2-of-10 third downs along with failing to convert both fourth-down attempts.
Led by this terrific defensive crew, the Seahawks could be a dark-horse contender to make noise in the postseason.
