Despite some rumors, Russell Wilson isn't going anywhere. The 30-year-old quarterback and the Seattle Seahawks were able to come together and work out a new contract extension.

Per Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times, the deal is a four-year extension that will make the total contract a five-year deal. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the extension is worth $140 million dollars with a $65 million signing bonus.

It makes Wilson the league's highest paid player, surpassing Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

With the new money in the contract and the money that was left on the final year of his old deal with the Seahawks, Wilson is reportedly set to total $157 million over the next five years, an average of $31.4 million a year. When Rodgers signed a new contract in August, it added four more years to the two he still had on his old deal, bringing his take to a total of $174.8 million over six years, an average of $29.1 million a year.

Wilson’s deal runs through the 2023 season, during which he will turn 35 years old. So, if he were to play out this contract, he’d hit free agency again at age 35.

Wilson has said he wants to play until he’s 45 years old. This deal would give him the opportunity to potentially test free agency one last time. Rodgers was 35 when he signed his latest extension, so there may be one more big payday in store for Wilson.

Seattle’s quarterback is coming off his seventh NFL season, in which he threw for 3,448 yards, 35 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, while running for 376 yards, but had no rushing touchdowns for the first time in his career.

Rodgers is about to enter the 15th year of his career, and his 12th as a starter. Last season, despite suffering a knee injury in Week 1, Rodgers still threw for 4,442 yards, 25 touchdowns, and just two picks.
