Over the last few seasons, the Seattle Seahawks have undergone some major changes to the roster that has shifted the direction of the franchise. This has seen many of the staple pieces of the core group move on elsewhere in their respective careers.

According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, only six players remain on the roster from their team that reached Super Bowl XLVIII.

Only K.J. Wright, Bobby Wagner, Earl Thomas and Byron Maxwell remain — and Maxwell just re-signed this year, having spent time with the Eagles and Dolphins since leaving Seattle after Super Bowl XLVIII.

On offense, there’s been even more turnover. Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin are the only two of Seattle’s 11 offensive starters in Super Bowl XLVIII who are still on the Seahawks.

This speaks to the constant turnover in the NFL that keeps it hard to maintain the same roster each year that can compete for a Super Bowl. For a five-year stretch, the Seahawks were viewed as being one of the best teams in the league behind their stout defense along with power running game led by Marshawn Lynch.

However, the Seahawks window looks to have moved on with several of the staples defensively out of the picture with players such as Richard Sherman, Michael Bennett, Cliff Avril and Kam Chancellor. Meanwhile, there has been much upheaval on the other side of the ball with Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin being the only two offensive core pieces left in place.

This could be a telling 2018 season of the direction the franchise is headed after missing the playoffs for the first time in six years. It may be their most challenging year since Pete Carroll arrived to compete for not only a playoff spot but also an NFC West division title but highly competitive NFC West with each of the other teams looking to have revamped their rosters.
