The Seattle Seahawks have hired former quarterback Austin Davis as an offensive assistant, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

Davis spent one season with the Seahawks, serving as Russell Wilson's backup in 2017. He appeared in three games, but never actually threw a pass.

The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Southern Mississippi, went undrafted but signed with the St. Louis Rams as a free agent in 2012.

However, Davis did not see real NFL action in 2014, when he played in 10 games and made eight starts for the Rams, throwing for 2,001 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 63.4 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 85.1.

The following year, Davis made his way to the Cleveland Browns, where he appeared in three contests and started two of them, completing 56 of his 94 passes for 547 yards, a touchdown and three picks.

Davis then did not play in any games in 2016 before heading over to Seattle the following season. The Seahawks then ultimately released Davis this past September.

With Davis joining Seattle's staff, the Seahawks moved Steve Shimko from an offensive assistant to the assistant quarterbacks coach and named Brad Idzik, the son of former New York Jets general manager John Idzik, the team's assistant wide receivers coach.

The Seahawks are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won 10 games and earned an NFC Wild Card berth, but fell to the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

Seattle has made the playoffs in six of the last seven years.
