The Seattle Seahawks endured their worst season in recent memory in 2021, finishing the year with a 7-10 record and missing out on the playoffs. While it was confirmed that Pete Carroll would be back in 2022, it was still evident that changes needed to be made within the organization. Well, a big change went down on Tuesday, as the Seahawks announced the firing of defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr., as well as passing game coordinator Andre Curtis, per Bob Condotta.

The decision to part ways with Norton makes sense. While he didn't have a ton of talent at his disposal in Seattle, the Seahawks were consistently at the bottom of the league in terms of defensive rating. They finished the year 28th in terms of opponents' yards surrendered, having spent a good portion of the season dead last in that category.

While the disaster that was the Seahawks' defense can largely be summed up as a lack of talent, Norton did little to nothing to enhance the group he was given. Yes, having some better players on the defensive side of the ball would have made his job easier, but he ultimately failed to take this group and make them better.

Norton had been the Seahawks defensive coordinator since 2018, serving four years in his role with the organization. Prior to his stint with Seattle, Norton had spent three years as the Oakland Raiders DC. The former linebacker also enjoyed an illustrious playing career of his own, making three Pro Bowls and winning three Super Bowls across a 13-year career split between the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers.
