It is no secret that Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson wants a new contract. As a result, the former Super Bowl Champion and longtime Seahawks signal caller has set a deadline of April 15th for the NFC West franchise to provide him with his coveted pact.

However, it does not appear as though the two sides are close to coming to terms, according to a recent report from Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.

“While there has been communication between the two sides of late, the leak of the news of a deadline this week doesn’t appear to have — as yet, anyway — resulted in any significant breakthroughs in negotiations,” writes Condotta. “One league source said Friday ‘there has been very little progress made between the two sides.' Conversely, it never takes much for there to suddenly be progress and deadlines tend to spur action, which also surely factored in to the setting of a deadline, and an earlier one than in the past.”

It is worth noting that Wilson currently has just one year left on his four-year, $87.6 million contract that he signed with the Seahawks back in July 2015. At that time, such a deal made Wilson the second-highest paid player in the entire NFL. With the April 15th deadline now looming, though, it remains to be seen as to whether the Seahawks decide to grant him his wish of a newly-inked pact.

The Seahawks have encountered continued success with Wilson under center, leading one to believe that a deal will eventually get done.
